As a new boater ten years ago, I received notification in the mail regarding our vessel documentation. It looked SO official. Not knowing any better I paid the $75 for our renewal. I was really angered when I discovered this wasn’t necessary and I could do it myself online for 1/3 the cost!
Pay attention to any solicitations you may receive and when in doubt go to the Coast Guard official site and renew there.
